Current Lake Lanier Fishing Report – Fishing report from December 9th, 2013

Once again I’m sorry for the lack of reports on my website. I stay extremely busy on the water and when off the water chasing a 7 year old and 3 year old around is another full time job. 🙂 Its hard to find the time to keep my website updated. Since my last report the striper fishing on Lake Lanier has been great. We have caught a ton of fish over the past few months using multiple tactics to catch them. September we were still down lining herring on the south end in deep water. October produced quite a few trophy stripers using BIG gizzard shad as you can see in the linked pics. November has been a mix of free lining trout and topwater plugs. Right now I would have to say the better bite is on top. The past couple of weeks there have been good schools of stripers showing up all over the lake feeding on little tiny threadfin shad about 1″ long. Sometimes these fish can be real picky about what lure they will eat. Somedays they will eat just about anything you throw at them and some they will not touch anything unless it matches what they are feeding on. This time of year the fly guys catch them good on little clouser fly but when your stuck using a spinning reel you need more weight to be able to cast. I like little swim baits like the Storm Wildeye Swim Shad in 3″ or a Jr Fluke in white. Saturday we had good action on a chrome and blue Sebile. The water temps are in the mid 50’s and this bite should continue for at least the next couple of weeks. If you haven’t experienced winter time striper fishing on Lake Lanier you are missing out and now is a great time to be out there. Also don’t forget to get your loved ones Lake Lanier Striper Charters gift certificates for Christmas.
