2-28-2011 Lake Lanier Fishing Report

Written by jeffblair on February 28, 2011

Spring is finally here. Water temps are in the low 50’s around most of the lake. The past few weeks I have been hitting the crappie pretty hard instead of striper fishing. On the striper end I have heard of a few fish being caught early in the morning and late in the evening on shad, trout, herring and even shiners on boards up real shallow in the backs of the creeks. The more consistent striper bite is at night throwing plugs. There is a lot of fish being caught on Spro McSticks and Rapala X-Raps hitting shallow flats and points. As far as the crappie goes I have been targeting deep water docks that have been brushed up. We have caught them on about everything. Minnows under corks are great with kids. I personally like shooting the docks with Capt Macks 1/32oz popeye jigs. Colors really haven’t mattered. They have been eating about everything we have throwed at them. Sometimes when they slow down changing colors will get them fired back up. This week my goal is to get back on the striper bite so by the end of the week I should have some good reports and start taking some trips I’ve been putting off because of the slow bite.
